New Offering Makes NAS Easy to Manage and Highly Scalable.
Eden Prairie, Minn., May 20, 2002XIOtech Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Seagate Technology and a storage area network (SAN) pioneer, today announced its Network Attached Storage (NAS) offering. XIOtech's MAGNITUDE hardware platform can now be deployed as a storage foundation for both NAS and SAN environments, delivering unsurpassed flexibility and simplicity to end-uses.
The XIOtech MAGNITUDE hardware platform coupled with sophisticated virtualization software, provides the perfect foundation for XIOtech to build its NAS offerings. As it does in a SAN environment, the MAGNITUDE hardware platform centralizes data and applications for NAS environments, making storage easy to manage, allowing for resource consolidation and for scalability. XIOtech's virtualized storage architecture removes complexity, reducing labor and improving space utilization.
"Flexibility is critical to users moving forward, and by offering an integrated model, XIOtech helps regardless of whether the requirements are for SAN or NAS," said Tony Prigmore, senior analyst at Enterprise Storage Group.
"Unlike other storage devices available today, XIOtech's virtualized storage architecture provides a networked storage foundation for NAS, SAN, IP, or just about any other type of storage network connectivity," said Dan McCormick, VP of Worldwide Marketing for XIOtech. "XIOtech's MAGNITUDE hardware platform solves storage problems at the foundation level, and these problems stay solved as the storage networking infrastructure atop this foundation evolves through SAN and NAS, to IP storage, Infiniband, and whatever advancements lie beyond."
Using an integrated model for a complete storage foundation provides greater benefits than simply being locked into one approach. Whatever storage model companies choose, SAN, NAS, IP storage, XIOtech's virtualized architecture provides an effective networked storage foundation for the future, allowing organizations the necessary flexibility to adjust to business conditions, regardless of the network plumbing attached to it.
XIOtech has already announced a solution connecting the MAGNITUDE hardware platform to an Ethernet network to serve as a NAS device, using VERITAS ServPoint NAS for Solaris 8. Later this quarter it will also announce a NAS solution with Novell.
XIOtech Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Seagate, develops comprehensive network storage solutions and was the first in the industry to develop true storage virtualization. XIOtech's virtualized storage architecturecomprised of the MAGNITUDE SAN hardware platform and REal-Time Data Intelligence (REDI) software familyincorporates all the components of a SAN into a tightly integrated, easy-to-manage, highly available configuration. XIOtech,s virtualized storage architecture makes storing, managing, safeguarding, and retrieving data on heterogeneous computing platforms easy and cost effective.
